News Team Henselite Foster & Marshall Celebrate Eight-Year World Pairs Wait
January 18, 2011

Henselite UK sponsored players Paul Foster and Alex Marshall MBE are feeling on top of the world after the pair, who boast eight world singles titles between them, celebrated their maiden World Bowls Tour success together when they beat fellow Scots Andrew Barker & Michael Stepney in the final of the Potters Holidays World Pairs Championship.

It was the 2006 Commonwealth Games Pairs gold medallists' eighth attempt at the title since 2004 – and event rookies Barker & Stepney, qualifiers in only their second appearance at Potters Leisure Resort, took the early lead in the event's first ever all-Scottish final.

But Foster & Marshall, both using there Henselite Tigers, clinched all but two ends of the second set – albeit only by single shot margins – to take the game into a best-of-three-ends tie-break.

It took a measure to earn the second favourites the first end of the tie-break before Foster & Marshall secured their long-awaited title success 3-8, 7-3, 2-0.

"The Commonwealth Games and the World Pairs are the pinnacle events," said Marshall, the record five-time world singles champion. "To finally win the world title after eight years is a big weight off our shoulders. The longer it went, the harder it got."
